‘Just Float’ Relaxation Technique

Just Float Relaxation Technique

Day 13 – 31 Ways To Overcome Burnout

Have you ever experienced the delightful feeling of floating on water, completely weightless but supported at the same time.

When the weather is warm, I just love floating around in our pool. I could fall asleep if I stayed there long enough.

Unfortunately we can’t swim in our pool every day, if it is not warm, the cover is on and I won’t even put my big toe in there.

This technique came to me, whilst trying to find a way to recreate that beautiful feeling of floating, and no pool is required.

Meditation and I are yet to become best friends.

I do try, but my left-brained mind has so much to say, so sitting in the lotus pose usually just ends up with me having very sore legs.

All you need is 10 minutes or more, and a comfortable bed. Set a timer if you are concerned about falling asleep.

As Abraham-Hicks always reminds us when you strop trying to paddle upstream and just relax and go with the flow downstream, that is when life gets easier and good things just flow your way. All the trying and struggling is paddling upstream, and reaching your destination will be hard work or you may simply never get there.

‘Just Float’ helps you throw the oars over the side and stop paddling upstream.

Lay down on your back and let your arms and legs fall naturally in a comfortable position. If you feel any discomfort use a pillow for support if necessary.

Close your eyes and take some very big deep breaths in and out.

Fully feel the air enter your lungs and feel your stomach rise.

Slowly breathe out all the air in your lungs.

Let every part of your body completely relax and let go.

It probably won’t be long before thoughts start appearing and try and claim your focus.

Instead of entertaining those thoughts or trying to stop them, just keep breathing and on the in breath, say (silently or out load) ‘JUST’ and on the out breath ‘FLOAT’. This helps to give your brain something to do and keep all the other random thoughts of the day at bay, but at the same time reminds you of what you are trying to achieve right now.

This technique can also be really helpful if you are having trouble falling asleep. Instead of focusing on the annoying fact that you are still awake, you can gently coax your body to relax and fall into restful sleep.

Enjoy!

Can you float or do you sink like a big boulder?
