10 Wonderful Ways To Use Lemons For Health And Vitality!

What to do with an abundance of lemons that your tree has produced, or simply pick up a couple from the supermarket. There is just so many wonderful things you can do with these fabulous little yellow wonder fruits!

One of my daughter’s friends has a huge lemon tree, that just does NOT stop producing huge beautiful lemons, and when ever I pick up Miss WW from their house, I bring home a bag full of lemons. Never wanting to waste them, I have found lot’s of ways to use them and stock the freezer for use in the future.

LEMON WATER – The healthiest way to start your day! Juice 1/2 a lemon and place into a tall glass. Fill with luke warm water. Drink the full glass first thing in the morning, before you have anything else. It is a great detoxifying process and gently wakes the liver up and helps it eliminate toxic build up.

SKIN BRIGHTENING FACIAL MASK – This mask is easy to make and is great for oily skin, reducing dilated pores, stimulates collagen production and has fantastic antiseptic qualities. Peel the skin off one lemon and place in a blender with a little water. Apply to facial skin (avoiding eye area) and leave on for 5 minutes. You may feel a little stinging. Wash off well with a gentle cleanser. You can also apply this to pimples on the back or chest for aiding healing.

STOCK THE FREEZER FOR FUTURE USE – Juice lemons and pour into ice cube trays. Once it is frozen, transfer into snap lock bags. Finely grate the lemon rind and store in a snap lock bag to add to recipies. Slice whole lemons and wrap in cling wrap, and freeze, pop a slice into your Gin and Tonic!

LEMON BODY SCRUB – Combine the juice of one lemon with 1/2 cup of sugar. Pop into the shower and moisten your skin with warm water. Apply the scrub in small amounts using a gentle circular clockwise motion. Rinse off and apply a lovely moisturiser after drying off.

LUSCIOUS LEMON CREAM – Finely grate the rind of two lemons. Place in a small bowl and combine with a teaspoon of sugar and set aside. Juice both lemons and set aside. Take 6 eggs and seperate. Mix egg yolks with 5 tablespoons of sugar and beat until fluffy. Add the peel and juice. Dissolve 1 1/2 sachets of gelatine (follow packet instructions) and add to the egg yolk mixture. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the above mixture. Place into a lovely glass bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Serve with freshly whipped cream.

INTERNAL CLEANSE –  Just like our skin that benefits from exfoliation, our intestines benefit greatly from this simple cleansing process. Combine the juice of one lemon with 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and sip slowly. It can be warmed if you prefer for a 20 seconds in the microwave. This powerful combination helps cleanse the lining and is just wonderful for your general health. Even though both of these things seem very acidic, they both help neutralise your PH level which is a super bonus.

COLD AND FLU SORE THROAT FIGHTER –  Combine 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 cup of warm water. Use this to gargle at least 3 times a day.

SUPER SALAD DRESSING – In a glass jug or small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of caster sugar. Stir well to dissolve. Add 2 spring onions (finely chopped), 2 tablespoons of sour cream, 1 clove of crushed garlic, 3 tablespoons of oil, a little salt and pepper and 1 tablespoons of lemon juice. Whisk until well combined. This dressing really brings a simple salad to life. I particularly like it over a bowl of torn lettuce and sliced mushrooms.

LEMON MICROWAVE STEAM CLEAN – Juice 1/2 a lemon and strain out any pith. Place into a spray bottle with 1/2 cup of warm water. Spray your microwave with the lemon mixture. Soak a sponge in water and place in the centre of your microwave. Turn on the microwave for 2 minutes on high. Allow the oven to cool and give it a good wipe down with a clean sponge.

QUICK AND EASY LEMON VEAL – Place 4 veal schnitzels (one at a time) inside a freezer bag and using a mallet, hammer until thin. Dust the veal in plain flour. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan and brown the veal steaks. Remove the steaks from the pan and put aside on a plate. Do not clean the pan, but add 1 cup of vegetable stock, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, salt and pepper and 4 lemon slices. Stir well and heat until simmering. Return the veal to the pan.  Add some freshly ground salt and pepper and allow the veal to simmer for 15 minutes. Serve with freshly steamed greens and mash potato.

All of these idea’s are simple and with lemon being so refreshing and uplifting, will certainly add some zest to your day….so when life gives you lemons………ENJOY!
