How Living In The Past Can Help You Create A Brighter Future!

Your past can hold some powerful keys, to helping you move forward, if you know how to use the right memories!

Just about every self-help book that I have ever read, is always telling us to leave the past behind and focus on a future that we do want. Often easier said than done, as our minds love to dredge up painful memories and make us rehash every nasty little detail. This is a self-preservation activity, it is like a warning, don’t go there again, it’s dangerous.

A painful collection of past memories is best left alone, the more you keep replaying the story, the more time you spend lowering your vibration and attracting more lower vibration circumstances. Wallowing in self-pity, anger, fear and sorrow is the worst task you can allow your brain to be the master of.

Your mind is also a treasure chest of joyful memories that you experienced at some stage in your life.

When you return to a happy event, joyful feelings stir in your heart. Simply go back in time and bring forward occassions that you really enjoyed. The happy birthdays, the arrival of santa, a special meal with friends or family, the birth of a child, a wedding, a holiday or even a special purchase that made you feel fantastic…….anything that brought you joy.

When your life is not going to plan or something painful has occured, you know you want to move out of the zone of discomfort, but it can be very hard to picture and feel what you want your life to be like, because you don’t relly know, you just want to move forward.

Use your joyful, past experiences as a powerful tool to get you into that happy place, you will raise your vibration, and in doing so, attract more happy circumstances into your life, even if you do not know exactly what you would like them to be.

In those moments when you mind wants to slip into the old pattern of negativity, gently tell yourself, “I am no longer focusing on that painful memory. I choose to remember something good”. Kindly and gently allow your focus to shift. It might help if you make a list and carry it with you at all times, so you can trigger a reminder and shift your focus towards the good.

You can use this tool, anytime you are stressed or upset. Enjoy putting your good memories to work for you!

  1. Love this post! I totally agree with not forgetting the past because it can sometimes save you in the present. There used to be a time that I could only remember the bad things that happened to me but once I got back some of the happier memories, my childhood didn’t look so back. Thanks for sharing this!

  2. Great post. I have just written a short memoir as I needed to let go of the past. Going back over those memories was horrible, but in amongst the debris were shafts of light and I have ended up laughing at ‘the stuff’ because out of it comes a beautiful life.

When I looked at awful moments, I sifted for good stuff.

The past is a place of reference and not a place to dwell, unless as you say you hold onto the sparkly bits.

    Love it!

    1. Thanks Julie, just another way of looking at things, by finding the positive in what is so often made out to be a negative 🙂
