Fathers Day Fun!

I am one of the lucky ones that still has her daddy around, to share this special day with!

We have a tradition in our little family. My only sibling does Mothers Day, so that mum and I don’t have to do all the work, and I usually do Fathers Day. Coming from a foodie family, means a simple snag on the barbie, does not cut it as suitable Fathers Day fare.  A lot of work usually goes into creating yumminess for this special day. I still drool when I remember the amazing food we enjoyed on Mothers Day this year! Think baked ricotta with pear salad, fillet of beef with a zesty herb butter, and this so to die for chocolate tart and you get the idea.

This year things worked out a little differently.

You see, on Thursday, mum and dad are going galivanting. Off to the other side of the world, for a little Swiss Alping and a little Mediteranean Cruising!

What started out as a simple holiday has become a bit of a party, with two other couples joining mum and dad on this venture.

These three couples have been friends since the 70’s, when they all met whilst we were living in Papua New Guinea.

One of the other couple’s daughter, decided we should all get together and throw them a going away party.

As with all families trying to pick a date where everyone could attend was a mammoth and practically impossible task.

It turned out that Fathers Day was going to be the day.

Bon Voyage

Bon Voyage! (My parents are the one’s doing the matching red thing)

South East Queensland pulled off a beautiful first day of Spring and we had the most wonderful time!

That would have to be one of the easiest Fathers Day I have ever done. All I had to do was create a little sweet temptation, so I baked one of my favourite slices – Chocolate and Caramel ‘Lava’ Slice!

I am truly grateful to still have both parents that are fit and healthy.

I wish them safe and happy travels!

  1. oh wow, good on them! I hope hubby and I are the kind of parents that are always off on journeys when we are older! Hope they have a brilliant time! And how awesome that they have friends who can and will pick up and go with them. -Aroha (#teamIBOT)

  2. Wishing your parents a wonderful holiday !!!
Sounds like a great way to spend Mother’s Day and Father’s Day – because my folks are the only parents around (and my brother doesn’t seem to fussed with either Mother’s Day or Father’s Day) – we tend to take them out so that everyone has the morning/night off – nobody has to cook and nobody has to wash/tidy up.
    Have a great day !

  3. I too am very lucky, although my Dad is currently in hospital again. But, I wont put a downer on things….
Good luck to your parents and their friends. What a fantastic trip they have planned. I bet they have the time of their lives 😉
