Life Hacks for Moving Interstate

Moving interstate is a stressful process that requires a lot of time and planning. Having no comprehensive plan results in the desire to rush everything on the day and, as a result, a lot is left undone and – often – a lot of tears are shed. Moving around the corner is challenging enough, but moving to an entirely different region will test you in ways you could you never imagine. Believe it or not, ticking off your moving necessities is the easy part, and doing so can make the hard part – the actual moving – a lot less stressful. Here are a few tips to consider when moving interstate.

Finding Removalists

Tracking down the right removalists for you is an essential part of the moving process. Consider what you need moved and the type of care it requires, then look into who might be able to provide you with this care. Professionals, such as Your Local Movers (a team of Brisbane removalists), will take many factors into account, offer post-move services, and provide you with a no-damage guarantee. Services like this are ones you should consider, because you definitely don’t want to deal with something as stressful as moving on your own. Remember that moving always requires extra help – no exceptions. Whether you get assistance from a professional or a neighbour, never attempt to move on your own.

Give every family member one plastic storage tub that they can fill with their important/must have items. Take this with you in the car so you always have the vital things close at hand. Using a plastic tub instead of cardboard will ensure everything is kept clean and dry!

Checklist of Musts

You’re going to want to make a list of everything that must be done before leaving your current area behind. Be sure to return any outstanding library books or DVDs, and notify your friends of your new address so they can find you easily if they’re visiting the area. It’s also important that you gather together any important documentation for the trip, such as your passport, medical records, and so on. Servicing your car so that it’s fit for a potentially long drive is also essential.

Give Stuff Away

A garage sale is perhaps the most effective means of giving unneeded items away. Some items are unsellable, but for anything of value or functionality, you should set a price or, if you’re in a hurry, give it away for free. Again, garage sales are good for both, though you could also try finding a purchaser on eBay. You should also consider keeping certain possessions in storage if you fear you might regret the decision to throw them away.

Moving – especially moving to a new state – is no walk in the park. In fact, it’s quite possibly one of the most stressful experiences that many people face in their lives. But doing so can also be a great opportunity to start fresh and begin a new, exciting chapter of your life; never lose sight of the potential positive outcomes, even amidst all the hassle of the actual move. Staying optimistic, along with keeping the above tips in mind, will help make the whole process a lot less overwhelming.

  1. These are all great things to keep in mind, especially having a checklist. It really is easy to overlook the small things (like the library books you mention!), so that when the removalists show up, you’re not prepared at all. It’s especially difficult if it’s interstate and you can’t just run back to that library to give the book back. Being adequately prepared with a checklist can be a lifesaver!

  2. I totally agree when you said that looking for interstate removal services is something that we should look for so that we will not feel stressed during the move. I can imagine how it can be caring and tedious to do it on my own, since I will finally move into the house that I have bought. So I should just hire professionals because I do not want to burden my family or friends for this huge change in my life.
