Making Time For Me Everyday – #icad2015

I am no amazing artist but I really do enjoying dabbling in art and craft.

It can be really therapeutic to play with pens, paint or thread. It is no wonder that one of the most current crazes is adult colouring books.

I have been working away on some inspirational art pieces that will one day make into an online store right here.

But like so many of us life is just so damn busy that often my creative pursuits get put on the back burner as work and running the household as a single parent takes up so much of my time.

Flipping through Instagram as you do, I found this little challenge that starts on the 1st of June.

#ICAD2015 is not a competition and there are no prizes, for 61 days you are invited to create a mini art work….on an index card!

The challenge is about the DOING…It is the process of creating each day that matters

There is only one rule – you have to create your art on an index card.

I found lined and blank index cards at the newsagent.

Everything else you use is completely up to you.

Pens, paint, pencils, stickers, stamps, washi tape, pictures from magazines or bits of fabric can be used, anything that you can write, draw or stick on will work.

There are daily prompts that you can use for inspiration.

There is also some ‘warm-up’ prompts if you want to start playing now.

There is a Facebook group you can share your creations to, or simply be inspired by what others have done.

Upload your creations to Instagram using the hashtag #icad2015.

Some people have already been madly prepping cards in readiness. I have just played with a few.

I like the lined one for lettering or list type cards and will use the blank ones for painted backgrounds as I think they look nicer.

You could use the time each day to make pretty lists or you could make some cards to give to friends and family.

Or you can just do it for you, making time to have a little fun.

Finding Time For A Mini Break!

Motherhood can be hard work, so much to do, so many people relying on you to get things done.

I can guarantee you that if I didn’t do the washing, no one would put a load on. If I didn’t grocery shop, we would not eat. If I didn’t mow the lawn we would be jungle dwellers, and let’s not delve into the necessary domestic science of toilet cleaning.

I work, I keep house, I cook, I write, I blog, I wash and iron, I garden.

There is never enough hours in the day for everything that needs doing, as well as there never seems to be time for self care, and I am sure that I am not the only one that feels this way.

A couple of weeks ago, I gave away a prize to one lucky reader to take part in Soul Comfort, an online course that is designed to help you find some ‘me time’. I was also gifted a place and I am so impressed with how this course is delivered, and when Brave Girls Club offer their next course, I will be joining in!

BUT, I have discovered a BIG issue that I have, and that is making time for me to do something fun, brings up feelings of guilt, and concern over things that are not being done whilst I indulge myself.

Please tell me I am not the only one that experiences this!!!!!!!!

I know how important self care is, I know we all deserve It, I know I have a guilt attack the minute I turn my back on chores and do something just for me, BUT it has to stop, I need a break!

SOOOO….in an effort to overcome this little problem, I am going to find just 15 minutes everyday to do something just for me, for the sheer enjoyment of it, and for re-training my thoughts about self-care, allowing and deserving.

I have come up with a little list of things I can do, and so can you. Don’t let your focus think about the washing or cooking or anything else that you ‘should’ be doing.

Paint my toenails

Read a chapter of a book

Make a cup of tea and don’t move until it is finished

Journal

Read a magazine

Exfoliate from top to toe

Apply a face mask

Have a bath

Phone my mum

Eat chocolate

Work on a little craft project

I will keep adding to this list. Just 15 minutes each day of me time, guilt free!

Do your friends get neglected because you are so busy?

Friends are a wonderful gift, and instead of making excuses why you don’t have time to get together, book in a time to catch up for coffee.

Surprise a friend with an invite for coffee, catch up on gossip, share all your news and enjoy some well deserved time out.

Time with family and friends does not always have to mean elaborate meals, extensive cooking and preparing. The time shared is much more important. So head to your local coffee shop and just spend a relaxing hour together with someone dear to you.

If you and your partner could do with a little connection time away from the house, have a coffee date together.

Relax, sip and laugh, the perfect way to spend a little ‘me’ time.
