From Brains To Barbie – Our Week Ahead!

From Psych Finals to Physie Finals – we are in for one hell of a week!

My Daughter is in for one of the biggest weeks of her life – and as her mother I am feeling every bit of nerves and stress that she feels, as I support her as best I can and at the same time praying for success!

Miss R is nearing the end of Year 11, at school, and that can be stressful enough, but she attends an amazing school etablished by the government to provide a unique learning enviroment for clever, gifted and dedicated. They do not follow the Autralian Corriculum, but intead they are an IB school and follow the International Baccalaureate program which gives them an Internationally recognised diploma, excepted by all universities around the world.

This privilege comes with a price, the IB programme is incredibly hard work, pushing the students way beyond what most year 11 students have to cope with. It takes a huge amount of work and dedication to acheive good results. One of the big differences in the IB way of learning, is that each student does an ‘Anticipated’ subject, and today and tomorrow will be sitting her final exams for Psycology, not at the end of next year like most year 12’s, this is one subject that ends now and her results will form part of her final IB score, where 45 is the goal!

The beauty of this, is that next year she only has 5 subjects for her final year, but the downside is the stress, learning, cramming, and pressure of sitting her first exams that count NOW! She has worked so hard and she knows her ‘stuff’, but I am still feeling sick in the stomach! Miss R wants to become a Neuro surgeon, so just passing is not an option, she needs to rock today and tomorrow!

AND if that is not enough stress for one week, there is more……….

Miss R has another passion in life PHYSIE – precision dance that is in the business end of the year with finals looming! She loves the exercise, the friendships and winning.

So as the week progresses, Miss R will metamorph from Super Geek to Blonde Barbie, as the school uniform gets replaced with spray tan, big blonde hair, fishnets and a leotard as we fly to Sydney on Friday, so she can compete in the qualifying rounds for Nationals and a ticket to the finals at the Opera House on the 19th of November!

With the help of a fabulous hairpiece from the UK, Miss R becomes a real life barbie doll!

Miss R takes her physie very seriously and has worked so hard in the hope of making it through to Nationals for the first time. Many girls have been doing physie since they were tiny tots, but we discovered this amazing sport only 5 years ago, so Miss R is a ‘late’ starter, but she loves it and it is a healthy distraction from the hours spent studying, and like everything in her life, she gives 100% or nothing, there is no in between.

So like every mum out there, I am doing my best to stay calm (not that successful at the moment), be supportive and help her on her way to acheiving the success she deserves!

GOOD LUCK BEC – I LOVE YOU AND I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!!
